Endless Highway: free online traffic racing game
Four lanes, endless traffic and your foot to the floor. Change lanes in time, pass close to other cars for extra points and watch day turn to night across plains, coast and mountains. Free, no account needed.
How to play
- Your car accelerates by itself and keeps getting faster. On a phone, tap or swipe left or right to change lanes; on a computer, use the arrow keys. To slow down, hold Brake (or the down arrow).
- You score for distance, and more above 100 km/h. Passing very close to another car gives a “Close call!” bonus that grows if you chain several.
- One crash ends the trip. In Two-way traffic, the two left lanes come towards you: driving there scores far more, but it is risky.
- The scenery changes as you go: Alentejo plains, coast and mountains, with sunset and night driving with headlights on. The Daily Road changes at midnight Lisbon time and has the same traffic for everyone.
Where this game comes from
The world’s first motorway opened in Italy in 1924: the Autostrada dei Laghi, between Milan and Varese. In Portugal, the first stretch of motorway, from Lisbon to the National Stadium, opened in 1944 and is now part of the A5 to Cascais.
Racing games with the road running off to the horizon, built from strips drawn one behind another, became famous in 1980s arcades with OutRun, from 1986. This game uses the same technique, with real traffic to dodge.
Free game, no betting and no prizes. On real roads, the limit on Portuguese motorways is 120 km/h. Your trip is saved on this device.
